Relief Funds Guidelines

  1. Death in the Line of Duty.
    (a) Firefighter must be a member of an AAVFD member department.
    (b) Department Chief must submit a letter verifying that the firefighter died in the
    line of duty, along with a copy of the department's fire report and/or news article to support claim.
    (c) Upon receipt of documentation and letter, AAVFD will pay $1,000.00 to the
    surviving spouse and/or children under 18.

  2. Injury in the Line of Duty.
    (a) Firefighter must be a member of an AAVFD member department.
    (b) Department Chief must submit a letter verifying that the firefighter was injured in the line of duty, along with documentation of the incident.
    (c) Firefighter must submit documentation from his doctor that he/she has been off work due to this injury for more than a month.
    (d) Upon receipt of documentation and request, AAVFD will pay $300.00 to the firefighter.
    (e) After a payment of $300.00 is made for an injury to a firefighter, and then it is determined that the firefighter is permanently disabled, an additional payment of $200.00 shall be paid.

  3. No other expenses may be dispensed from the Relief Fund.

  4. Definition of Covered Activity - means any activity, including travel directly to and from such activity which is a normal duty of a firefighter, including any (1) emergency response for fire suppression and rescue or emergency medical activity; (2) training exercise which simulates an emergency and where active physical participation is required; (3) firematic events or contests; (4) classroom training; (5) fund-raising activities, including athletic activities solely for the purpose of raising funds for the fire department, county or state association and (6) Official functions attended primarily by members of the fire department for which the purpose is to further the business of the department, county or state association (i.e. installation dinners, banquets, etc.)
